I saw Dreamed Vengeance posted in casting networks (the site we actors use to submit ourselves for work) and I saw Dreamed Vengeance, it was always called that from the beginning, and originally I believe I auditioned for the hotel desk person role, and I suppose Jason saw something else in me to be able to play Sarah/Coretta instead, which has been an honor. The rest is history. I’m from Massachusetts and I moved to San Francisco 4 years ago to pursue acting. After 4 wonderful years in the San Francisco market, I am now transitioning to Los Angeles.

I had no acting training whatsoever when I first started acting 4 years ago. I have a bachelors in Political Science and was working in government before I transitioned to acting, and I never took an acting class before that, however I have always been a public speaker and a “performer,” in school and that has always carried with me, especially when I decided to change my career. In any field, you always have to be studying or doing, so I took acting classes and workshops as often as I could in the Bay Area to learn how to audition, be on camera, analyze scripts, etc. I’m always still learning.

I’ve had the opportunity to audition and work right away upon starting my journey 4 years ago, which I’m very thankful for. The biggest project I have under my belt up to date, which was shot 2 years ago now is the film LANE 1974, it’s based off the book Hypocrisy of Disco by Clane Hayward and it’s essentially her story of growing up with an extreme Hippie background in San Francisco in the 1970s. Lane 1974 premiered at SXSW in March of this year and is now available for rent/purchase on iTunes and other VOD.

It was extremely eye opening and special to be involved in Dreamed Vengeance. It was amazing to see a first time filmmaker like Jason work really hard to achieve a vision with limited resources and manpower, often times behind the camera it was a one man show! Jason Tong, extraordinaire filmmaker, photographer, lighting, gaffer, sound, etc etc. It is not uncommon for independent filmmakers to go through processes like this, and he and I learned a lot along the way. The project has a special place in my heart because it was a project that was toiled over, and also because the film is a message of hope in humanity.

My first character Sarah is completely bitchy, but for a good reason. With her relationship, she and her boyfriend are struggling financially to make ends meet and so many people can relate to that. Financial struggles unfortunately take a toll on many real life relationships and that’s why she appears so unlikeable. Personally, I relate to Sarah a little in regards to her patience, her patience definitely ran thin with Martin, portrayed by Marlon Daniel Cowart. I would say that for the most part, I did not relate to Sarah because she is the kind of person to give up, which I would not.

I also got to play Coretta Scott King which is the character who takes Sarah’s body, and she was such an amazing woman with such class, dignity, and kindness. Because she was a real life historical figure, there were lots of material available for me to study her mannerisms, which I did. What stood out to me among my research is the love she had for her husband. As Coretta, I was really trying to portray that the most. Personally, I would say we’re similar in how we value education, but I think we’re different in a sense that she has so much strength from within, and I’m still trying to find mine.
